The system we use is the BioSet™ program developed in 1997 by Dr. Ellen Cutler. It is based on more than 26 years of practice and study in the areas of enzyme therapy, food allergy elimination, food digestion, nutrition, muscle testing, bio-energetic testing and chiropractic and acupuncture reflex techniques.

What is an allergy?
The simplest definition is that an allergy is an over-reaction of the immune system -- an abnormal response to something that is considered normal or non-disease causing.
Food and environmental allergies and sensitivities have been increasing over the years for many reasons. The estimated 50,000-plus chemicals and other non-naturally occurring substances in our air, food and water are a big part of the problem. Poorly digested foods, polluted air, water and other environmental toxins, emotional stress, metabolic wastes, and more create a toxic environment within the body.

Why use this allergy desensitization system to treat my allergies?

How does it work?
Allergy desensitization consists of three areas of healing:
- Evaluating your body's toxicity levels and examining the function of organs that deal with toxin drainage;
- Determining and treating the basic nutrients your body needs to accomplish maximum efficiency of enzymes, the catalysts that help your vital bodily functions run smoothly;
- Investigating and treating you for substances from the world outside of body.
It's amazingly simple, involving painless and non-invasive treatments over a few weeks or months. During each session, allergies to foods and substances are treated using glass vials containing the allergens and stimulating a series of acupressure points to help the body release it.

What can I expect from my first treatment?
You will be asked to fast for six hours prior to your initial evaluation, so we can perform a fasting enzyme evaluation with our computer-based Meridian Stress Assessment. This is used to measure digestive and metabolic deficiencies, and evaluate the need for enzyme supplementation. We will also use it to detect imbalances which correspond to different organs, as well as sensitivities to amino acids, minerals, vitamins, sugars, viruses, molds, parasites, and numerous foods.
A specific sensitivity can be "cleared" on the initial visit. We may make dietary and healthy lifestyle recommendations during this visit and/or during follow-up. The initial evaluation usually takes about 90 minutes.

What happens after that?
At each follow-up visit, we will work on eliminating a specific sensitivity to a group of allergens. No avoidance period is required after a desensitization session. You can be exposed to the previous allergen and in most cases you will not get an allergic response, even right after treatment.
Follow-up sessions for additional allergen sensitivities can be conducted as frequently as every 2 hours, but we usually recommend two appointments per week. Each follow-up desensitization treatment takes about 30 minutes.

How many treatments are required?
After the initial evaluation, sensitivity to a specific group of allergens can be cleared within one visit with significant symptom reduction. However, for chronic health challenges and specific desensitization protocols, deeper levels of detoxification and energy balancing may be recommended.
Depending on your overall health and the state of your immune system imbalances, detoxification deficits and the number of sensitivities detected, the number of recommended allergy desensitization treatments can vary greatly. Some people may require only a few treatments, others may require six to twelve sessions to eliminate allergic responses to multiple allergens, and some people with many health challenges and sensitivities may require significantly more.
Fortunately, there tends to be a cumulative effect with each desensitization treatment. During each successive session, other sensitivities are often either relieved or eliminated.

How long can I expect the results of these treatments to last?
In certain instances, where it is necessary to perform desensitization for immediate or acute problems, short-term desensitization can be performed which will eliminate allergies for between two weeks to two years.
Most of the time, we will be following treatment protocols that will essentially eliminate the allergy permanently. However, trauma, extreme stress, serious illness or over-indulgence can lead to a relapse.
Once you have completed all of your treatments, we just recommend that you come back every six months to a year for a maintenance appointment.

Why might I need to take enzymes?
We recommend enzyme therapy as needed for enhanced digestion, nutrient absorption and balancing of immune responses. Digestive enzymes are essential for the proper digestion, absorption and assimilation of nutrients. The essential effect of enzymes is to speed up the biochemical reactions of digestion and make them occur more efficiently.
Supplemental enzymes assist in the pre-digestion of foods, decrease stress on digestive organs, improve nutrient absorption from ingested foods, and improve the movement of food through the gut for proper elimination of waste products.
When used alone, the use of supplemental digestive enzymes can decrease the potential allergenic response of many foods. When used in conjunction with our allergy desensitization system, they can increase the likelihood of successful therapy.

Will I have to stop my prescription medications when undergoing this treatment?
No. In fact, we do not recommend you stop taking any prescription medications without talking with your prescribing physician first. Additionally, any supplements you have been told to use by another health professional may be continued. Evaluation of the individual biocompatibility and effectiveness of a supplement or medication will be addressed as part of your bio-energetic assessment. These will be taken into account in your treatment sessions and in the use of enzymes and homeopathic remedies.
In many instances, as desensitization to allergic and improper immune responses occur, we may advise you to check with your doctor about decreasing dosages or to determine if you need to continue taking a particular medication. We will also evaluate your supplement use, since the need for certain supplements may also be altered while undergoing treatment.

What's the science behind this?
The scientific basis of bio-energetic sensitivity and enzyme therapy is found in the principles of acupuncture, a system of health established a few thousand years ago. Additionally, our treatment system has scientific foundations in immunology, enzyme therapy, nutrition, chiropractic, and neurology.
Although many other medical professionals are beginning to look into using this system, you may find that your traditionally trained medical doctor may scoff at it, even without any knowledge of the successful clinical outcomes, because its scientific basis is in areas that are not traditionally taught in medical schools in the United States.
Also, because the technology to objectively measure electromagnetic energy changes in acupuncture meridians is relatively new, there are not many healthcare practitioners certified in this system.
